How to care for your luxury watch

How to care for your luxury watch

Whether you are first time luxury watch owner, or an avid collector these are the basic steps in order to care for your watch.

Keep the packaging

First and foremost, make sure you keep the original box and papers in a safe place. If you ever decide later on to sell your luxury watch, then the box and papers will increase its value.

Condition

If you wear your luxury watch on a regular basis, it's inevitable that you'll get some nicks along the way. Make sure you have these buffed out (by a professional) as soon as these happen. The better condition you watch is in, the higher value it will have.

Storage

Most collectors of luxury watches, tend to keep their watches in storage majority of the time. You'll obviously need to store your watch in a safe and secure space but you will also need to remember to wind your watch every so often - normally every 2 - 3 months.

Cleaning

Regardless if you wear your luxury watch on a daily basis, or keep it in storage, every watch will need to be kept clean of dust and grime. Dip a soft cloth in warm, soapy water and gently wipe down your timepiece. If you wear your watch often, you will need to clean your watch more often than one in storage.

Insurance

If you live in South Africa or abroad, you will know watch theft is an unfortunate reality. Make sure your luxury timepiece is insured. For an accurate appraisal, contact us for a free valuation

Water Resistance

Know the water resistance of your watch, especially if you have a vintage piece. Also, if your watch has a leather strap - rather don't go swimming with it. After all, you wouldn't swim in your leather loafers.
